What Have You Learned From ROCKY?

Have you found yourself getting frustrated when things don’t go your way?

For example:
You thought you’d make money quicker.
You thought you’d be further along in your career.
You thought you’d be more established in your company.

Too often when things get difficult or challenging, too many people want to turn back and give up. What has happened to the “never say die” attitude?

Where’s our Rocky mentality?

For some people it takes longer to create their dream. Some people have more baggage that they’ve carried with them for years. Some people are willing to let go of their baggage and some people never do.

Remember Rocky? Yes, I know Rocky Balboa is fictional. I get it.

But here’s the lessons learned from Rocky.

1. Willingness To Do What It Takes

Rocky hitting frozen beef in the meat cooler. Probably my least favorite scene in Rocky, but the one that shows his willingness to do what it takes for as long as it takes. I would guess that most people remember this scene also...along with running of those giant set up steps!

2. Surround Yourself With People That Believe In You

In Rocky’s case, his wife Adrienne. He yells her name after he wins or loses. She is his rock. Put people around you that are “for” you. Not “with” you, “with” you people leave when the going gets tough. “For” you people are going to tell you when they seeing you not being your best self. Andy Andrews says that a great friend expects the best out of you, not a “yes person.” Surround yourself with people that are in your corner!

3. Stay Humble

Remember what happened to Rocky when he became an ego maniac? Clubber Lang. Be confident and sure of yourself, just not obnoxious. Nobody likes that.

4. Have a Great Mentor

Apollo Creed, need I say more? Hang out with people that are going to bring out the best in you? How do you get to be great at your business, sport, parenting? Surround yourself with powerful mentors! I have mentors for business, for healthy living, for my parenting, for being the person I want to be.

5. Be Open To Change

Remember Rocky was a southpaw (a lefty.) Then he had to learn how to box with his right hand as the dominant hand. He had to take his natural ability and way of doing things and relearn everything all over again. Be open to learning. When you are open to new experiences, opportunities, people in your life, your life blossoms.

6. Keep The Eye of The Tiger

Keep your eye on the goal. Distractions will take you right out of the game. Write down your goals and keep them with you. I have my vision and goals posted in 5 different parts of our home and when I walk by I stop and read it. When I read my vision for my future that I'm in the process of creating, it's a powerful experience assisting me with keeping my eye of the tiger.

7. Have a Sense of Humor

Don't we all love Rocky's humor? That's one of the great surprises while watching the movies. You see this massive, tough boxer cracking little jokes and teasing others. Keep your sense of humor. Life is meant to be JOYFUL and fun! If you're not having fun at what you're doing, do something else. Life is too short to spend all your time in a business, job or relationship that you can't stand.

When you have a Rocky mentality, knowing that you're the champ and that nothing is going to stop you from creating your life the way you want it, that's when things really get exciting.

Don't you see?

You've then drawn your line in the sand. You will always expect greatness. What will you attract? More greatness. That's why it seems so easy for some people, that's why it seems as if they get all the breaks, creating money easily. They made their choice...greatness. Not wishing, hoping or thinking they'll do something about a different life down the road. They are moving with ACTION, just like Rocky.

How can you take your own Rocky stand for yourself?

Do you require a more support cast around you?

Are you a thinker more than a doer?

Do you get all knowing only to fall flat on your face?

Everyone can learn from Rocky's lessons, I know I have and continue to learn from one of my favorite movie characters of all time (well, let's not count Rocky IV or Rocky V.) I'll look forward to hearing your comments and what you've learned from ROCKY.
